Jackson area golfer Chad Risner got the best reads off putts and shots today at the One-Person Golf Scramble at Sharp Park.
Risner used his two mulligans every hole very well Saturday to win the event with a 9-under-par 62.
He tied with Todd Marston for first place but won on a scorecard playoff – with his 31 on the back nine being the deciding factor.
Cody Lysher finished third (63), Tom Klintworth and Nick Henman tied for fourth with 64s, and Andy Horodecki, Brian Strickrodt, and Lance Woodland shot 66s – good for a tie for sixth place in the event.
The win was Risner’s first major in Jackson County since winning the Lyle Ambs in 2010 and the Stableford in 2009.
Risner used that “second putt” to create a winning score.
“That extra putt really helped today,” Risner said. “If I were playing my own ball it would have been rough.”
Risner had a six-foot putt on the last hole for par. He missed the first putt but made the second to secure a tie for first place. He didn’t glance at the Golf Genius scoreboard all day.
“I hit some good shot today and just tried to go low.”
Risner finished with nine birdies and nine pars. He did birdie the two hardest holes on the course – Nos. 2 and 12. His Fred Flintstone shirt may have been his good luck charm on Saturday.
Marston had seven birdies on the front nine – including six in a row at one point. A bogey on No. 2 was hit only blemish on the day.
Chris Chrzan and Nick Henman split the skins game money. Chrzan had an eagle on No. 8 and Henman an eagle on No. 1.
